Is Germany obsessed with Greece?

What the data clearly shows that around the Greek parliamentary elections on the 7th of July 2019 is an uptick of mentions in other European regions.

Germany cares about Tsipras & Greece more than others

In Germany Tsipras and the Greece have gotten more coverage in the news than in other European countries for the last nine months. From the beginning of our obeservation period in October 2018 there is an unusual high amount of mentions by German media continuously in an bi-weekly rhythm almost.

It was big news in Germany when Greece payed back early some IMF loans on the 14. April. No one else cared, but German media did – big time.

Greece of interest in rest of Europe

In other European regions Tsipras and Greece are much less frequent prominently positioned in the news. Only of the European Elections in May 2019 and the Greek parliamentary Elections on the 7th of July other regions took notice.

On election day almost all regions mention the results.
